Over 1,000m² of protective, dust-proof epoxy coatings for use in a new Metro Maintenance and Renewals Skills Centre located in South Shields, Newcastle.

The new development operated by Nexus, is a state-of-art, bespoke training facility for more than 1,000 people who work on Metro that will deliver a wide range of infrastructure and operations training to staff.
the project
The project is being funded through a £7m grant from the Government’s Local Growth Fund Deal through the North East Local Enterprise Partnership and a £1.4m contribution by Nexus.
The new facility will boast a 70 metre stretch of dual track for Nexus to carry out rail infrastructure training, including track, track points, signalling and overhead line.
The new three-storey training centre itself will house a new computerised Metro driver training simulator and a mocked-up Metro stations complete with a full length platform, ticket gates, PA system, CCTV and a Help Point.
Vebro’s solution
Vebro Polymers provided its two-coat water-based, vapour permeable, easily applied seal coating, vebrores EP SC, in a high-gloss Agate Grey colour for all areas inside the new centre.
The system is used primarily as a concrete sealer to improve the appearance and longevity of any indoor concrete floor. The system is best suited to areas where a dust-free, easily cleaned surface with improved chemical resistance is required.
vebrores EP SC can be diluted by up to 10% water addition and is applied over two coats using a good quality roller.
vebrores EP SC is formulated from bio-based polymers and meets the stringent criteria for AgBB low emissions coatings, meaning that the coating hits environmental benchmarks for improved indoor air quality.
