A well-established food & beverage manufacturer required a high-performance, hygienic, durable and resistant floor finish to be installed across its flagship Shah Alam processing plant in Malaysia during the Hari Raya shutdown period.

Yeo Hiap Seng – fondly known in the market as Yeo’s – was founded in Zhangzhou, a city in the Fujian province of China, in 1901. Less than three decades later, in 1937, the company moved its headquarters to Singapore, allowing the company to thrive despite the devastating effects of World War II.
The company, which has grown exponentially over the last century, is now a blue-chip brand, having expanded its range of canned food, soymilk, and other drinks internationally across all major continents.
the project
Yeo’s Shah Alam plant required a new lease of life and paused process lines to facilitate scheduled maintenance during the holiday celebrations. With only a seven-day window for renovations, the chosen flooring solution would need to be installed efficiently, allowing staff to recommence production after the festive break.
Ingredients like salt, sugar and oils can cause damage to inappropriately specified flooring materials, so it was imperative that a fit-for-purpose chemical resistant finish was chosen to avoid any further downtime for Yeo’s.
Vebro’s solution
The tired and worn surface in the central production hall was renovated with a 4.0 mm smooth-finish PU cement flooring system, vebrocrete MF.
An unpigmented priming scratch coat was followed with the vibrantly pigmented vebrocrete MF surface, delivering durability, hygiene and safety in food production and packaging environments.
The polyurethane concrete system offers excellent chemical and stain resistance, thermal shock / cycling resistant from -15°C to 90°C, and a compressive strength of 50 N/mm2.
vebrocrete MF is a HACCP International certified, self-smoothing, tight-closing system with excellent cleanability and hygiene credentials. With no grout or butt lines to house dirt, dust or mould, vebrocrete MF surfaces can be easily swept or mopped clean.
Complementary cove grades are also available, allowing end user to ensure a seamless, hygienic transition between the floor and wall surface.
When it comes to slip, fall accidents, vebrocrete MF surfaces offer sufficient traction underfoot in dry process area; however, for those areas prone to becoming wet, a more robust profile is achievable.
