A durable, high-performance floor coating system was required for a fully refurbished mechanical workshop that would go on to be leased to industrial end users.
Millennium Group is an international property investor, developer and management organisation, that specialise in sourcing, managing and maximising the potential of industrial grade properties.
The company, founded in 1993, is established in major industrial markets across the globe, including Asia, mainland Europe, Australia and the US, as well as the UK, where this old mechanical workshop is located.
The former mechanical workshop has undergone a full refurbishment, including an overhaul of the flooring to ensure its suitability for as wide a range of industrial end-users as possible.
The facility, located in London Colney, a small village close to St Albans, Hertfordshire, is situated in a small industrial estate, and was previously used as a mechanical workshop.
The floor had been subject to heavy impact as well as contamination from oil, meaning particular attention would be required to certain areas of the substrate.
Vebro Polymers supplied a package of epoxy floor coating materials as well as a heavy duty screed and styrene butadiene liquid additive.
After shotblasting and with a combination of vebro EP Primer and vebro EP OT Primer in areas where oil had previously contaminated the substrate, vebroscreed Industrial was applied at 10.0 mm across the 1,200 m2 floor area. The deep-fill, rapid-setting and hardening, high strength, single-part, cementitious smoothing underlayment screed provides a durable sub-floor prior to the installation of resin finishes.
vebroscreed SBR was used as an addtive in a traditional sand-cement screed to create ramps between the industrial area and its adjoining office spaces. The resulting formulation delivers additional durability and water resistance when compared to sand-cement screeds without the additive, as well as considerably faster drying times.
A combination of vebro EP Sealer and vebro EP Universal in BS4800 00A09 Flint Grey, installed across the entire 1,200 m2 floor areas as well as the ramps, delivered a durable, chemical resistant floor finish that would be suitable for a range of industrial end users, making this an ideal choice for a building intended for rental.
